Charles A. Wilson Jr.

Dear Editor,

With the recent passing of former Congressman Charles A. Wilson, Junior, eastern Ohio has undeniably lost one of its most outstanding leaders, one of its strongest advocates and one of its most prominent businessmen, who fought tirelessly and effectively in support of the area and its residents.

Long before Charlie embarked on a career in governmental politics, he was well recognized and highly respected as one of eastern Ohio’s most prominent businessmen, who as a result of his altruism and love for the valley, decided to utilize his business acumen and great “people skills” in order to have an even greater impact on the area and its people.

In govenment, as in business, Charlie, quickly established himself as a very productive and highly respected legislator and leader, who worked diligently and successfully on behalf of his constituents beginning with his election to the Ohio House of Representatives in 1955, followed by his election to the Ohio Senate in 2004, and to his election to the United States House of Representatives, representing Ohio’s Sixth Congressional District in 2006.

In Charlie’s initial successful Congressional run (in 2006), Charlie was elected as a “write-in-” candidate, receiving approximately two-thirds of all votes cast, which was a virtually unprecedented political triumph!

Charlie’s achievements in government and business are most impressive and laudatory.

He will be greatly missed, but the positive impact Charlie has had on our area will be felt for years to come.

Individuals of the caliber of Charlie Wilson are rare, indeed. We are blessed that he was “one of us.”

Thank you.
