Lap for Kids

Dear Editor,

On Sunday, May 4, Lucas’s Lap for Kids, was held to further benefit the Shriners Hospital in Erie, Pa. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank everyone that helped to make the walk such a success. Without the generosity of my sponsors, my family, all the volunteers that gave graciously of their time, Mrs. Stephanie Mendelson and the Bridgeport High School Interact Club, my fellow Bulldogs, my teachers and staff members at Belmont Career Center, and all those that participated in the walk, I would not have been able to achieve the goals that I had set out to accomplish. Those goals were the ability to be able to give something back to the Shriners Hospital for all the wonderful care that I received over the past nine years of my life and hopefully the chance to become an Eagle Scout.

I feel so honored and blessed to have been given this chance to be able to do something that hopefully will make a difference in the life of another child, especially at a time when they are afraid of the unknown of what is to come. I will be using the proceeds from the walk to make up gift bags that can be given to the children at the hospital. I know what a difference it made for me, when I had surgery on my spine at the Shriners Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa. to receive the gifts that I was given. It made my stay a lot brighter. I truly am grateful for all that the Shriners Hospital has done for me and feel so very fortunate that my parents and I found them. They are without a doubt amazing. I hope that if anyone reading this and possibly knows of a child that can be helped by the Shriners, they will take the steps necessary to contact them.

Thank you once again to everyone that made Lucas’s Laps for Kids a success.
