| | What do their parents think?August 3, 2011 - Taste BudsWith the over abundance of reality shows on TV, the Buds find it difficult not to get engrossed in at least one (or two or three). Who can resist the intense drama, the immature bickering or the illicit romance? We do realize that many of these situations are the result of creative editing, but that doesn't always justify the sometimes cringe-worthy actions of reality show contestants. For example, does anyone really want to watch a man threaten or hit a woman (or vice versa)? On one reality show, a man actually held a knife to a woman's throat! Then there are the over-the-top screaming matches—complete with enough swear words (censored, of course) to make your hair curl. Some contestants are so profane that more than half of their statements are beeped out. But the Buds can still read lips; we know what's being said. The reality show behavior that really gets the Buds up in arms is watching contestants hook up with each other. These people are complete strangers, but yet they don't think twice about entering into a scandalous rendezvous. Even though this kind of stuff draws ratings, the Buds often wonder, "What do their parents think?!" Do you think the mother of the knife-waving man took pride in her son's questionable actions? Is it comfortable for a dad to watch his beautiful daughter strip down to her unmentionables and slip into a dark room with a strange man? Would these people talk with such potty mouths around grandma and grandpa? Here's a bit of sage advice the Buds wish to pass along to all reality show contests: do what you must, but never forget that mom (and dad) is watching!
