Seminole Nation

August 24, 2011 - Robert "Bubba" Kapral
IT is the ultimate Goliath vs. David matchup. Big bad bully Florida State is picking on Monroe Central High School. All over trademarks and logos. Get a life, FSU. Do the two schools look similar in football garb? Yes. So what is the big deal? What harm does Monroe Central do to Florida State by using the same logo? None. Moreover, I believe it only enhances the Florida State brand. Anyone watching Monroe Central play football must, at one time or another, flash FSU thoughts. I would think Florida State officials would relish that free publicity. I guess not. Monroe Central has been in existence since 1994. Why beat them up now for alleged trademark infringement? If nothing else, the Monroe Central version of Seminoles is helping cultivate Florida State fan following. Monroe Central has no option but to relent to Florida State's strong arming. I wonder, however, if FSU officials feel good about wrecking a school's tradition.
