F-O-O-T-B-A-L-L! "Football is like life---it requires perseverance, self-denial, hard work, sacrifice, dedication, and respect for authority~Vince Lombardi.
It all starts again tonight! And...that quote is why I love the game of football! Not that I don't enjoy college or pro football, but there is something special about the high school football season. I think I love it a little bit more.
I love everything about the game. I love the coaches who like smash mouth football and would only throw the ball if they thought God himself ordered it. I love the coach who spreads the field and throws all over it. I love the clever offenses and defenses that you don't see in the NCAA or NFL.
I love the fans. I love the parents, girlfriends, and siblings who live and die with every play hoping their guy makes the big play. I love the parents who work the concession stands to raise money for the team, cheerleaders or band. I love the parents who hug their son after they game even if it does embarrass them.
I love the 50-50 drawings. I love the drawing for the game ball. I love the announcers....the ones who only report on the game and even the ones that think they are John Madden. I love the cheerleaders. I love the bands. I love the mascots. I love the school colors and school spirit.
I love watching the emotions of the coaches when talking to the press box. I love the "Get Back" coach. I love the big hits. I love sacks. I love "busted" plays that go for big yardage. I love that I know the difference in a dive, a power and a trap (and I thank my Dad, Coach Collette for that). I love when the game is for "all the marbles." But I love it when the kids are playing for only their pride.
I love the player who does his job every game and never gets mentioned in the paper. But, I love the player who rushes for over 200 yards on 6 carries. I love it!
I love that players never forget their coaches. I love the coaches families for letting them coach and mold young people while sacrificing time with their own family.
I love this game!
Until next time friends!
I would like to wish all of the Ohio Valley players, teams, coaches and communities good luck this season.....(especially those in Purple!)
