This little piggy cried, "Wee! Wee! Wee!"

August 31, 2011 - Taste Buds
Of course the Buds love good food, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we want to see where it all comes from. Recently, Bud Shaunna was invited to a pig roast. Upon arrival to the event, she eventually headed over to see “the pig.” Not like she’s never seen a pig before, but seeing a cooked, blackened pig lying on that table creeped her out a little. Bud Shaunna doesn’t normally like to gaze into the eyes of the food she’s eating.

Prodded by guests to “Just taste it,” she did. It really didn’t taste bad, but one bite was enough. She walked away while the rest of the meat was pulled from the pig and watched from afar when pans of pig meat were hand-shredded and then mixed with barbecue sauce to make delicious-smelling pulled pork. Bud Shaunna (and her nose) was intrigued. So when the dinner bell rang, she scooped some pulled pork onto her plate and dove in.

But after one bite, visions of the pig lying on that table haunted her. Pulled pork is delicious, but she just couldn’t eat anymore. Nothing could get the image of that blackened pig out of her mind. It also didn’t help when a guest pointed out the brain was still inside and that it was “squishy.” Needless to say, if Bud Shaunna happens to attend another pig roast, she will stay far away from the pig!

In a few weeks, the Buds will both be attending a lamb roast thrown by a mutual friend. Bud Shaunna fears the same reaction, and Bud Em echos her sentiment. But always the cool cucumbers, the Buds will attend with smiles on our faces and pay no attention to Mary’s Little Lamb. We’ll enjoy the festivities like everyone else. But we’ll be eating chicken.
