An outpouring of love
September 28, 2011 - Robert "Bubba" Kapral
The Ohio Valley has again proven me correct. I have held steadfast that local residents will always step up for a good cause. My belief was reinforced emphatically Tuesday night. Arch-rivals Bellaire and Martins Ferry locked horns in volleyball on the Purple hardwood. It was a "Volley for a Cure" game, where proceeds are channeled to helping Breast Cancer Awareness. However, this cancer fundraiser took on a much deeper and heart-felt meaning to the Lady Riders as the gate receipts were targeted for one of their own. Kylie Clark, a 2010 Ferry grad and former Purple spiker, was the recipient of an impressive outpouring of love, support and generosity. Clark has been battling cancer issues for years, ringing up some prohibitive medical costs. Tuesday night's game, combined with donations from private citizens and businesses, amazingly surpassed $3,000, all earmarked to assist Kylie. That is off-the-charts generosity! The Big Reds Nation also showed the two schools are the most friendly of rivals as Bellaire has committed the gates receipts to Clark when the Reds and Riders hold a rematch in the All-American Town. What a touch of class and character by the Reds. Kylie Clark is a battler and valiant young lady. Moreover, she has obviously touched the lives of countless people as witnessed by their show of caring for her Tuesday night. The Ohio Valley has again made us proud.
