Division III Semifinal #2

March 14, 2008 - Seth Staskey
Well, it's the second game of the second day. It's another Division III showdown between Ottawa-Glandorf and Anna. The teams have never met and both teams have brought their entire communities judging by the crowds dressed in yellow and green, respectively.

Ottawa-Glandorf jumped out to a 10-0 lead to start the game, but Anna has since scored 11 of 16 to make it a 16-11 game early in the second period.

The teams have exchanged runs in this second period with a shade over two minutes to go until halftime, O-G has pushed its margin back to eight at 29-21. The Titans are doing it with a vaunted full-court pressure.

We've reached halftime at the Schott. O-G holds a 31-24 lead. Anna appeared to be going to do down 10 at the break, but got fouled in the act and then stole the inbounds pass for a layup, leaving at the above score.

In one of the more boring state tournament games I've seen in quite sometime. And to be honest, I am not sure why it's boring other than the fact that there is absolutely no star power in this game. Not one player that you came into the arena looking forward to watching. Anyway, enough of that. Headed to the fourth, Anna is staring up at a 45-38 deficit, which I am not too happy about seeing that in last week's Sunday column, I picked the Rockets to win the title.

So much for the boring game. These teams have caught fire in the fourth quarter and Anna continues to plug away at the O-G lead. The Rockets have shaved the margin from as many as 12 in the second half to three at 55-52 as we've hit the media timeout with 3:25 to play in the contest.

Well, Anna has cooled off considerably again and O-G has stretched its lead back to seven at 60-53 thanks to an 8-1 run. While the Rockets have cooled shooting the ball, head coach Matt Meyer has become a little upset with some of the officiating calls that have gone against him.

Anna is back within five and just missed a three, which led to a run-out layup for O-G with less than a minute to go.

Well, it appears that it will be O-G and Garaway for the Division III state championship Saturday afternoon at 5 p.m. The Titans own a 64-57 lead with just 19 seconds showing on the game clock.

People are heading to the exits in droves from the neutral supporters. Our best guess is that they are heading to find a television to watch the second half of the Buckeyes and Michigan State, which I have been following on my laptop.

It's a final. Ottawa-Glandorf advances to its second state title game in four years with a 65-57 victory. Anna finishes its season with a strong 25-2 record.
