Mother Nature: Indecisive as all get out

October 13, 2011 - Taste Buds
Sweatshirts! No, shorts! Shoes and socks....er, maybe I need these flip flops?

Yes, that’s the dance we do every year about this time with Mother Nature herself. Is it hot? Is it cold? She doesn’t even know, so don’t bother asking her!

The Buds enjoyed the Indian summer last weekend. Who would have thought we’d be sitting outside in shorts and tank tops in the middle of October? Oh well, we certainly aren’t going to argue!

But what we do have issue with is the flip-flopping between summer and winter. Living in the Valley, we should know the typical fall routine—Eskimo boots and parkas on the drive to work in the morning, shorts and t-shirts for the drive home in the afternoon.

With the change in temperature comes a change in wardrobe. For most of us, that means venturing into the darkest, scariest part of your closet and digging out those winter clothes we tucked away oh so long ago. And while the Buds would just love to be the grab and wear types, we admit that we need to launder the winter clothes before we wear them. They’re usually wrinkled and smell like plastic boxes anyway!

The Buds feel the best solution to tackling this fickle weather is by dressing in layers. Wear a sweater over a short sleeved shirt or tank top, and you’re good for the warm afternoons. The mornings may be cold, but the sun is still warm enough to heat you up later in the day.

In the meantime, we wish Mother Nature would just make up her mind already. No more faux winter and no more teasing us with a summer season that’s been gone for a while. Just pick a season—and a temperature—and stick with it!
