November 23, 2011 - Taste Buds
Thanksgiving is, obviously, the Buds' favorite holiday. Of course, there's the whole matter of all that yummy food--turkey, potatoes, stuffing, cranberry relish and pumpkin pie, just to name a few. But Thanksgiving is more than just food. It's all about family and friends, and isn't that what really matters?
Times are tough for a lot of people, and it's really easy to focus on the negative. However, the Buds want to focus on the positive. Look around. Chances are, you'll see many people who seem worse off than you. It's pretty easy to see that things aren't really as bad as you think they are. Take some time to reflect on the things in your life that are good, the things that you are most thankful to have. We did, and here's what we came up with:
First of all, the Buds are thankful for their families. We don't like to wait until one special time of the year to let them know we love them. Every day is special, so we make sure we tell our families we love them on a daily basis. Same goes for friends! Friends are the family you choose, so don't forget to tell them how much their friendship means to you.
We are also grateful for our jobs. Lots of people with jobs complain about them, but think about the person who doesn't have a job and has been desperately looking for one. Don't you think you're better off having a job, even if it doesn't particularly inspire you? The Buds LOVE their jobs, so we are definitely thankful (and lucky!) in that regard. Not only can we be our outgoing, creative selves, but we also get paid to do one of our favorite activities--EATING!
We are thankful for our good health. No matter what your age, never, EVER take your health for granted. You don't realize how important it is to you until you find your health in jeopardy. Just ask Bud Shaunna--she exercised regularly, ate a healthy diet, and stayed active, but then was diagnosed with cancer at age 31. Health issues can smack your face from out of the blue, so always be grateful if you're in good health.
We give thanks for the roofs over our heads and the clothes on our backs. Maybe we don't live in the biggest houses, drive the nicest cars or wear the latest designer clothes, but we're pretty happy with what we do have. Our homes have heat, our cars have gas in them and get us to and from work, and our clothes fit and look nice. We are certainly very grateful for that!
So tomorrow, while you're sitting around a big table surrounded by family and friends, pause a second to take in the moment. Mentally list some of the things you're thankful for in that moment--we're willing to bet your list will be too long to rattle off! And then smile and let your family know you love and appreciate them.
And THAT, friends, is what giving thanks is all about!
