Bad weather and the OVAC tournaments

January 26, 2012 - Michael Palmer
Bad weather and the OVAC tournaments seem to go together like cookies & milk.

It is most likely due to the time of year they occur, but it seems that it is a safe bet to predict bad weather for the OVAC Tournaments.

Thursday and Friday nights were typical bad driving nights for the OVAC Wrestling this year.

Which led to many of us talking at the tournament about the traditional snow and ice that coat the roadways on that weekend. We also discussed the high water which has submerged the island and moved the tournament to Steubenville.

Not exclusive to wrestling, the weather has postponed basketball, swimming and cheerleading championships.

The winter weather also makes it a real challenge to get to and from basketball games. The worst scenario is to be in Skyvue and have a snowstorm hit during the game.

Thankfully this year we have had mostly rain to deal with. According to the weatherman if the rain had been all snow, so far this winter we would have accumulated 12 feet of snow.

If you consider that alternative, then this winter has not been bad at all.

I am not complaining, I was able to afford the snow tires with studding for my ride this winter and the few bad nights driving conditions have made that purchase seem both wise and economically sensible.

Swimming last year was an ice storm, but this year looks like a mild day with just a few snow showers. Cheerleading has a reputation of being as being as bad a wrestling for weather, so next weekend may be another challenge.
