| | WHEN THE BUZZARDS COME BACK TO POLE CAT HOLLERJanuary 31, 2012 - Michael PalmerIt usually happens in early May, those big lazy fliers, the Turkey Vultures come soaring back into the Ohio Valley. Today, while I was out in the yard swinging the grandchildren, I noticed a pair of these Buzzards drifting along on the updrafts. It was nearly 60 degrees, sunny and oh yeah, the last day of JANUARY! Groundhogs are unreliable forecasters of weather, that is a proven fact. Buzzards are usually rock solid on their signaling of the return of spring weather. It makes perfect sense, groundhogs can just burrow back into their warm holes if the weather turns snowy. Buzzards, not so, they are stuck out in the weather and if their food source is frozen under a layer of ice and snow, they can starve to death. Therefore, regardless of what Phil or Chuck forecast on Thursday, I am going with the buzzards that were flying over the farm today and saying that there will NOT be six more weeks of winter.
