Beware the Ides of March
March 15, 2012 - Michael Palmer
The soothsayer's warning to Julius Caesar, "Beware the Ides of March," has forever imbued that date with a sense of foreboding. But in Roman times the expression "Ides of March" did not necessarily evoke a dark mood—it was simply the standard way of saying "March 15.
Perhaps the fans of Southeast District champion Chillicothe should have taken heed to the classic warning as they were eliminated by the St. Clairsville Red Devils on that very date.
I have been touring the area taking spring sports preview photos and the consensus of opinion was that it was the end of the road for the Red Devils at OU today.
That was not a total landslide vote, one very intelligent basketball official stated that his belief was that "if" St. C was shooting well from outside the 3-point arc that in his opinion "They could beat just about any team you could throw against them."
I would like to see an OVAC vs ECOL final Saturday afternoon with New Philadelphia. I guess I will listen to that game on the way home tonight.
