113 Days 'til Jambo!
March 27, 2012 - Michael Palmer
There are just 113 days left until Jamboree in the Hills 2102 kicks off and this year we already know a large portion of the line up.
Jamboree in the Hills. July 19-22, Jason Aldean, Ronnie Dunn, Rascal Flatts, Charlie Daniels, Neal McCoy, Joe Zelek, David Nail, Colt Ford, Jamey Johnson, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Aaron Lewis, Little Big Town, Eli Young Band, Eden’s Edge, Drake White, Blackberry Smoke, Tracy Lawrence, Michael Stanley and The Resonators plus more to be announced.
The early release of Jason Aldean may have been to spur early ticket sales from fans outside of the valley. The locals show up for the party regardless of the artists on stage.
This year, so far, in this cowboy's humble opinion it is not the 'A' list from last year, but there are still slots to fill.
Buckeye talents Rascal Flatts are on the bill which should thrill their fans. Dunn minus Kicks would seem to be half as good, but I reserve judgement on this show until I see where it slots on the time line, hopefully he is not a closer.
For all those die hard southern rockers, Charlie Daniels and “The Dead Skynyrd band are on the ticket. If you love this genre and fondly remember the 70's rock scene you should check out a new band to JAMBO, Blackberry Smoke, on the web. These guys look like they are right out of an old Don Kirshner's Rock Concert episode. Not real popular on the charts as of yet - but I like their style. Worth a look on the you tube.
The wild monkey-man of the speaker towers is back; aka Neal McCoy, and with a new album under his belt, it should be a fresh stage show this year.
My buddy, Colt Ford, the country rapper is back. This guy is a 'country rapper' which seems weird, but of you have listened to Jason Aldean's cover of Colt's 'Dirt Road Anthem' you realize his talent for penning a song is epic. He writes beautiful lyrics, humorous lyrics, heartfelt lyrics and has the amazing ability to capture the essence of what being "Country" is, in his songs. Aldean proved that Colt's material is marketable, now we need Colt to prove that fat men are marketable in country music.
Admittedly, Colt is not for everybody but I enjoy his music and hope he gets an evening slot and that he gives an all out party show this time around and lets his lady friend exercise her 'Fergie' chops. I have watched him on CMT, GAC and the internet enough to know it could be a great time for the fans if he gets the feedback from the crowd.
There would seem to be another 'klunker' on the list that looks to be a "The Straight Shot" wanna be band; The Resonators. I will keep an open mind, but I would rather see my buddy Sean Patrick McGraw or some other hungry country talent on stage in place of these confusing 'jazz' groups which are tossed into the mix.
I am anxiously awaiting the rest of the artists in the to be announced category and know that whoever they bring to the stage, I will have just as much fun with my friends in the media tent. Besides, last year half of the 'big name' acts kept the photographers in the tent with their “No professional photographers” mandate.
