Going to the chapel ..... in Omaha?

October 16, 2013 - Michael Palmer
In just about a week my son will marry the love of his life. Recalling the day he was born so long ago. I also thought about all of the life we have shared. All of the worrying that his mother and I did over the years as we watched him grow from a joyful mischievous young child into the strong handsome fine man that he is today.

It has been ten years since we dropped him off in Blair, Nebraska at Dana College and since then he has been home very little. There were the first two summers of college, but in the last eight years we have seen him just once or twice a year for a few days at a time.

He has done quite well for himself chasing his passion as a Biologist and working at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska. Still we wish he was closer to home, especially now that he will be married and there is the possibility of grand children.

Still knowing what I do for a living I was a little surprised that he chose a Friday night in week 9 of football season to get hitched. So when you look for the guy with the Hawaiian shirt on the sidelines next Friday, I will be out of state.

This I would not miss for the world though, because it is an event we know he is planning on doing just once in his life. The young lady also works at the zoo and they fit well together.

Because we are not the Rockefeller's most of us are just loading up in a big van (aka Yoder Toter) and driving out West. If it is a typical road trip - we are all set for an adventure.
