December 30, 2013 - Robert "Bubba" Kapral
ANOTHER MISTAKE has been made along the Lake. How can the Cleveland Browns fire Rob Chudzinski as head coach after just one year on the job? It is no wonder the Browns are NFL creampuffs. Chudzinksi may not be a great head coach, but how can we tell? He inherited a sad-sack of a team. Losing has been etched into the Browns' fabric for many a year. Not even Vince Lombardi would have turned the Browns into winners in just one year with the material on hand. The QB situation was laughable. The team used three different starting quarterbacks. None will ever be a NFL standout. The front office took a punchless offense and made it even more feeble by trading its franchise running back Trent Richardson to the Colts. In return, the Browns will get a low-tier first-round pick. The Browns need playmakers. They have few impact players. Joe Thomas, Josh Gordon, Alex Mack and Joe Haden are blue-chippers. No other Brown can lay claim to such a designation. Infusion of better talent, and loads of it, is the answer to the Browns' ills. That will not be an easy task. Two first-round draft picks will help, but attracting prime-time free agents is a difficult if not impossible sell. Who wants to come to a cold-weather, losing franchise? A coaching change was much too premature. A front-office change may also be in order. Browns' fans, be prepared for many more losing seasons.
