Did you have to see your shadow?
February 4, 2014 - Michael Palmer
Punxsutawney Phil, the weather forecasting rodent up in Pennsylvania, saw his shadow this year. So?
So, we have six more weeks of winter ahead.
Like we needed a groundhog tell us this.
With forecasts of a “wintry mix” tonight, six more weeks of winter is not just a safe forecast: It’s an optimistic one. The warm overnight temperature will mean lots of ice which leaves us with super-slick secondary roads for yet another commute. .
Schools in our area await a reprieve from the Governor allowing additional snow days and the OVAC girls tournament semi-finals are now scattered throughout the upcoming week ahead.
I am a fan of Ohio weather and enjoy some snow and really don't mind some cold weather, however this year has been extreme.
I have had to burn almost all of my firewood for the winter before February, I have had my gas frozen up for days on end. I have had frozen pipes. I have been snowed in and waited for the township to come and plow so I could get to work.
The OVAC swim week was a disaster with the prelims cancelled and the day of the finals one of the worst travel day this winter.
Buckeye Chuck did not see his shadow, but I am not believing that “whistle pig”. I think I will listen to the weather man who says we are due for yet another blast of frigid Arctic air after the Panhandle Low buries us in more snow and ice with a low around zero predicted for Friday morning.
If we get all the girls semi-final games in by Saturday, at least the forecast is clear for the championships.
Next week we will have to see what mother nature has planned for the boys?
At this rate - I can hardly wait for track season, which I fear might look a lot like the Winter Olympics.
