A work of art - on your face!
August 21, 2014 - Taste Buds
Well it's no secret that the Taste Buds love food. But that's not all they are about. For instance, you may not know that I (Bud Em) also have an insatiable appetite for makeup! Good makeup. Pricey makeup. Aside from a great meal, nothing makes my spirit soar higher than when I'm holding a bag from Sephora. *Sigh* Well, that might be a little extreme but in my experience getting new makeup is the purest form of retail therapy.
There are many reasons why women wear makeup. One being it can boost confidence. Some women can't imagine facing the day without it and in extreme cases they won't allow anyone to see them sans makeup! Even their own spouses! I've actually read that Dolly Parton sleeps in full makeup just in case there's an earthquake in the middle of the night. She even admitted that the ONLY way she'd consider going bare-faced is if her husband had a heart attack....and even then she'd "have to think about it"! That's pretty extreme.
Makeup can also be worn by young women to look older and, conversely, for older gals to look younger. Makeup can also be used to disguise skin problems. The right makeup can complete an outfit or look. In my opinion, makeup must be used when wearing a formal or dressy outfit - it just looks unbalanced if you don't. Of course, makeup doesn't have to be obvious - sometimes just a couple swipes of mascara and a hint of gloss is perfect. It just depends on what you're doing.
But the main reason I personally like makeup is because it's fun! It's one area where women can really set themselves apart from men. With all the different colors, textures and tools involved, playing around with it can be fun to do and the best part is, if you mess up, all you have to do is wash it off and start over. And I also have to admit - I love the packaging! The graphic designer in me can very easily be compelled to make a purchase based solely on a great looking package. It's art, people!!
Here are some of the products I'm loving right now: Lancome Daul Finish Powder: This stuff goes on quickly and easily - the perfect foundation for women on the go. I've been using it for years! CoverGirl and Olay concealer: Goes on smoothly and blends well while providing excellent coverage. Perfect to conceal under eye circles and blemishes. Benefit Dallas blush/bronzer: This color is not too orange or pink - the perfect neutral shade for contouring or creating a warm glow. Love, love, love it! Too-Faced eye shadow collections: I have both the Rock -N-Roll and the Country color palettes. They each feature nine colors and come with a handy guide to get you started in creating potentially a zillion different looks. In fact, looking at a catalogue recently I see they've come out with a Cat Eye palette ... this will most likely be my next purchase!
It may take a while to perfect your makeup application skills, so just remember practice makes perfect. There are also tons of great tutorials on YouTube where you can pick up tips and get some really cool ideas.
