You call this sports?
May 28, 2008 - Seth Staskey
I had just got done umpiring a youth softball game and sat down on my couch to watch the Cubs and Lakers, respectively. However, when I turned my television on both games were on commercial, so the next channel I flipped to was FSN Pittsburgh for the Pirates, which too was between innings. Okay, so next in the sports' junkies line is ESPN-2, which leads me to this blog.
I flip on this highly-regarded SPORTS channel only to find Salsa Dancing Championships. Yes, you read that correctly, Salsa Dancing. I am not sure what Salsa Dancing is, but that's what it said on the banner hanging on the stage.
How in the world does this stuff land on ESPN-2. I mean what an embarassment to have dancing on a sports channel. I understand that ABC's Dancing With the Stars receives huge ratings and has been a hit. However, those involve celebrities dancing and people love the pop-culture end of it. Salsa Dancing Championship was actual dancers. I mean come on ESPN. You people are better than this.
After I simmered down and the three real sporting events returned to action and I was fine again. So, I decided to flip back at the top of the next hour that evening to see if ESPN-2 has someone legit on only to find motocross racing. I admit, that's better than SALSA Dancing, but not by too much.
