NBA Draft

June 27, 2008 - Seth Staskey
I will admit I am not the biggest fan of NBA basketball, but I do love the college game. Therefore, I was glued intently to the draft Thursday evening.

First off, let's just say the Heat getting Michael Beasley is going to put them right back in the thick of the playoff chase. You put Beasley, who is an absolute man-beast on the interior, with Dwayne Wade and Shawn Marion and the Heat are back in the conversation as a playoff team.

The Bulls made the right choice in selecting Derek Rose. You never let a point guard of that capability go by you. It's cost many people before and I am sure there will be others, but I think former Kettering Alter standout John Paxson made the right calls with this pick. It also doesn't hurt the cause that he's a hometown kid.

Now lets skip ahead to the Cavaliers. What exactly are they doing? Does Danny Ferry have a clue? They picked some guy who most experts were saying could be the biggest bust in the draft. N.C. State's J.J. Hickson. Let's be honest, the Cavs don't have time for projects. Because in two years, LeBron is out the gate. You can mark it down.

It's amazing how quickly Joe Alexander shot up draft boards. Watching this guy in the NCAA Tournament made you think he had NBA game at some point, but to think he was going to become the eighth overall pick and head to the Bucks is something else.

There is no means an exact science to this draft. Yeah, I think Beasley, Rose and Mayo are can't miss NBA players, but only time will tell.
