The prep football season enters its third weekend this evening around the Ohio Valley and some things are starting to become really clear. Steubenville and Wheeling Central are still really good and after that it's pretty much a crap shoot. The Ohio Valley seems pretty balanced. You've got St. Clairsville, Union Local, Harrison Central, Shadyside, Beallsville, Bridgeport all off to strong starts. Martins Ferry continues to be an enigma. The Purple Riders looked mighty strong in their scrimmages, but dropped their opener to Buckeye Local and then failed to score in the second half, but held on to beat Edison last week. The Riders have as much talent as anyone, but they are adopting a new offensive approach and seemingly haven't fully worked out all of the kinks, but something tells me the Riders are going to explode one week and it could be on for them at that point.
Jordan Barbina of Union Local has put some astronomical numbers through the first two weeks of the season. He's accounted for 14 touchdowns and has passed for more than 300 yards during both weeks.
While we think we are starting to figure things about the prep football season, there's still a long winding road to go yet, so settle in and keep track all year long in The Times Leader.
