December 24, 2008 - Seth Staskey
The most joyous time of the year has arrived as it's Christmas Eve and in 13 short hours from the time I am typing this, it will be Christmas Day.
We in The Times Leader Sports Department would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
While the world has plenty of problems from the economy to wars to shoes being thrown at world leaders, here in the Ohio Valley, it's a great time. Yeah, we have our struggles here too, but we've got the foundation of youth and high school sports to turn to. That's what makes this valley tick is its youth and commitment to youth.
Covering sports for the past 10 years for this paper has given me some great opportunities to cover some exciting things on all levels, but let's be honest there's nothing like covering the prep sports in the Ohio Valley where people actually live it and love it. That's what makes coming to work so much fun.
Yeah, we don't always please everyone, and that's understandable, but we sure do our best and will continue to do our best to bring the world of sports to the Ohio Valley as we get set to enter 2009.
It's time for me to put my ham in the oven, bake some cookies, wrap some gifts and get to bed early, so Santa Claus can come ASAP. I really need some new socks.
Anyway, enjoy all of the NBA on television Thursday cause that's basically the only sports on Christmas all day.
More importantly, enjoy the time with your family and friends. That -- above any new video games, clothes or anything else -- is what makes this season bright.
Again, I must get to my duties before I run out of time.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to one and all.
