| | New TuneDecember 28, 2008 - Robert "Bubba" KapralWith 2008 nearly evaporated, it is commonplace to look back at the top stories of the year. The presidential campaign and the subsequent historic election of Barack Obama obviously draws heavy consideration. But of greater consequence all year long was the failing economy as its struggles were felt locally and nationally. The nation was -- and possibly still remains -- on the brink of a depression. These are the toughest of times, and the Ohio Valley has been hit right between the eyes with all the economic problems. The steel industry is on life support, businesses have been shutting their respective doors with all too much frequency and all the Eastern Ohio counties are struggling with their budgets. Having said that, hopefully with Obama running the show for 11 months we will be whistling a different tune entering 2010.
