| | Big Ten PrideJanuary 5, 2009 - Michael PalmerIt is a tough season to be a Big Ten football fan. We are just 1-5, with one game to go as the Ohio State Buckeyes take on the - We have a chip on our shoulder - Texas Longhorns. After being snubbed for the national championship game, the Longhorns have a chance to earn a share of the national championship with, maybe Utah (?) by laying a whoopin' on our Scarlet and Grey. It's not like anybody really expected much of the Big Ten in this year's bowl games. Iowa's 31-10 win over South Carolina is about the only thing the conference has to be proud of in this holiday's football extravaganza. Northwestern has nothing to be ashamed of, their game against Missouri was a good game, one of the few battles in a bowl season of blow outs (Florida State 42, Wisconsin 13). Maybe the fans from Happy Valley can look down their noses at the Buckeye fans after Penn State put together a good second half against USC and only lost 38-24 to the mighty Trojans. The other showings were Georgia 24 - Michigan State 12, Kansas 42, Minnesota 21. So........which of the two Buckeyes squads from this up-and-down regular season are you expecting to show up? They are our last chance to earn some respect for the conference, keep your fingers crossed.
