BCS Title Game

January 9, 2009 - Seth Staskey
Like most sports fans I tuned into the BCS Title Game Thursday night on Fox. And I am a fan of Tim Tebow because of not only his on-field abilities, but what he stands for off the field. I am also a fan of Urban Meyer and Bob Stoops because they are Ohio natives, but for some reason I was pulling for Oklahoma more.

First off, it was a great game. Both teams' offenses were much-talked about, but it was the defenses that played extremely well. Tebow just made a few plays when his team needed it and it was nice to see the Gators go back to the jump pass, which OSU fans are still having nightmares about in their sleep.

The thing I was most thankful for was the fact that the games have only one more year on Fox before shifting to ESPN, where they belong. First off Fox doesn't cover college football all season until the bowl games. Second off, its number one team of Thom Brennamen and Charles Davis just weren't up to par Thursday night. They had no idea what down it was on the Oklahoma drive, which got stopped on fourth down. They had no idea that the clock was running after an incomplete pass during the fourth quarter and I am pretty sure they were somehow related to Tebow.

For its last season with the BCS, I think Fox needs to bring Joe Buck over from the NFL Booth to call the game. At least he's got a clue and he's a good announcer.

I am a huge Chicago Cubs fan as most know and I first got exposed to Brennamen when he was the middle-innings voice of Cubs baseball on WGN. He's an excellent baseball announcer and has a good voice, but the stage was a little too big for him. If Davis were working for ESPN/ABC, he'd be lucky to be calling Tuesday and Wednesday games.

And while I didn't hear the announcing because I was there, don't get me started on the team that called the Fiesta Bowl.
