NFL Playoffs for the Birds
January 13, 2009 - Seth Staskey
The expression 'for the birds' takes on a new meaning in this weekend's conference championship games.
The Steelers are the only team remaining not from the bird family. Ravens, Cardinals and Eagles are the other three teams.
Personally, I feel the remainder of the playoffs and Super Bowl are for the birds literally. We look for a Ravens and Eagles Super Bowl, which doesn't have much luster.
The playoffs unofficially ended for me on Saturday when the NFL missed a blatant delay of game call in the Titans game vs. the Ravens. The play ran when the call was missed resulted in a 20-yard gain for the Ravens, who eventually kicked a game-winning field goal with just under a minute to go.
Gaffes are going to happen by officials, they are human we understand, but in the divisional round those things just can't happen. These are supposed to be the best crews from throughout the season.
While the call was missed, I wouldn't be an objective person if I didn't admit that the Titans still blew a myriad of chances to win the game. Three turnovers in the red zone just won't get it done.
Anyhow, that's over with now. Here are my predictions for this weekend if anyone cares:
AFC Championship Game
Ravens 21, Steelers 13
NFC Championship Game
Eagles 34, Cardinals 17
Then there are two weeks until the Super Bowl. Wow, the talking heads will have a field day with that.
