January 20, 2009 - Seth Staskey
Yes most of the Ohio Valley is in a state of excitement due to the Pittsburgh Steelers qualifying to the Super Bowl. Personally, I am not a Steelers fan. I don't have the gear, I don't root for the team, but I do follow them.

I have been to many games and watch each week (partially because regional coverage in the NFL TV deal makes me watch), but I am not one of those absolute Steeler haters like some people.  I have a great deal of respect for the way the Steelers do business. They get quality people via the draft and occasionally free agency, but for the most part they win with developed players. I like that.

They don't turn over coaches in a drop of a hat. There were many times when Bill Cowher had a down year and fans in the Steeler Nation were calling for his head, but Dan Rooney remained true to the plan and it resulted in the organization's fifth Super Bowl ring. Now with Coach Mike Tomlin he's a class guy who took over Cowher's team. Let's not forget that Cowher left under his own terms and wasn't ran out. Coaches who are ran out usually have players who aren't good, so they fire the coach.

However, the reason I am not a Steelers' fan is because of their fans. I know 'fan' is short for fanatic. I don't like hearing the song on the radio letting everyone know that "Pittsburgh's Going to the Super Bowl." The fans are like all other fans I understand, but for some reason they get on my absolute last nerve.

Anyway, I wish both teams luck and expect this game to be a lot better than many think and I think it will be closer than the seven-point spread the folks in Las Vegas have set the game at.

My prediction will come at a later time.
