The Ohio Valley's most recent bout with winter weather continues to wreak havoc with the high school sports schedule. I am dealing with a severe case of cabin fever due to there being no basketball for the most part.
I understand the rationale especially when you are dealing with ice, school busses and kids. It's growing on me as I get older, but it doesn't make it any easier to deal with.
The biggest problem is cancelling games and then finding places to put them later. With the OVAC Tournament quickly approaching and cut-off dates for the tournaments coming quicker teams are scrambling. It's getting to the point where teams could be calling off games to protect their seed at the present time.
I am not sure what can be done to prove that or to even correct it if it is going on and it's harder to prove due to the fact that there have been so many games postponed already that teams have been basically re-doing their schedule on the fly as the season's moved along.
One thing I will say, we at the Times Leader are appreciate of Athletic Directors getting word to us in a timely manner about changes to schedules. I have made trips before only to find out there's no game and it's not very much fun to say the least.
Regardless, the OVAC Swim meet is this weekend that will go on unless 3-5 feet of snow move in before now and the weekend.
