| | My Obsession with American IdolApril 14, 2009 - Kim ColletteI promise myself every year. This will finally be the year! I REFUSE to get caught up in the madness that is American Idol. I tell myself that I'll watch the show casually and not get invested in people that I don't even know. I tell myself that I will take who gets "booted" off each week to who eventually "wins" the title with a grain of salt. I will watch the show like a zombie And...just like the past 7 seasons, I find myself sucked into American Idol yet again. I am going to give you my run-down of the 7 contestants left "singing" in the competition. Lil Rounds-Can she sing? Eh...I think she's okay. I don't think she's close to the talent of Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson. And believe me...I'm not huge fans of theirs either. Maybe the right song choice will help keep her in the running. I predict her run on Idol ending soon, very soon. Anoop Desai-Finally! Someone who breaks the mold! A preppy college guy with Indian heritage. Anoop's silky smooth voice (which totally surprised me at first) is easy to listen to...when he sticks to ballads. Please Anoop....no more attempts at being the next R&B star. Anoop might be able to stick it out a few more rounds. This is where I think the contest gets a bit more tricky. Allison Iraheta-What a voice for a 16 year old! The raspiness of her voice is unique to this year's competition. Is she my cup of tea? Not hardly...her vocals are starting to wear on me. It's not because she's a bad singer. She's just not versatile enough for my liking. But a lot of people do. I would say she shouldn't finish any higher than 5th, but definitely has a chance to make it into the Top 3 if her fans keep voting, voting, voting. Now we are to the 4 contestants I personally look forward to each Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Kris Allen-How cute is he? (Which is always a plus to get the young girl vote!) Kris has steadily improved each week and won me over. I will give him a pass on last week's "All She Wants to Do is Dance." Why? Because he melted my heart with his version of "Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone." If Kris stays away from odd performances like last week...he should stay in the competition until the Top 4. Matt Giraud-This guy kinda confuses me. When Matt sings bluesy or jazz songs, he rocks! Anytime he trys a pop song he struggles. Matt....sticking with the judges advice should keep Matt around to the Top 3. Ok...so here is where I disagree with my family, friends and even that Batman guy. They all Who will win you ask? I want Danny Gokey to win. And I am rooting for Gokey to win. And that my friends...doesn't bode well for Danny Gokey. (None of my favorites have EVER won AI.) So as badly as it pains me to say this Until next time friends......
