Let the Sun Shine In

April 18, 2009 - Michael Palmer
Yesterday was the official beginning of shades, shorts and sandals season. Of course there are those hearty persons who push the envelope and begin this trend sometime in February, but for the rest of us, yesterday was the first day of both summer fashions and a great weather weekend.

This will be brief, I am just killing some time while the primer dries on our remodeling project, then after the first coat it’s out the door and into the sun.

Researchers have started recognizing the importance of sunlight for a healthy lifestyle, recent studies reveal that sunlight renders many health benefits. Sunlight plays a significant role in nourishing and energizing the human body. It is also vital in order to get the full nutritional value from food that you consume and it has been proven that getting sufficient sunlight aids in preventing chronic ailments such as seasonal affective disorder (SAD), osteoporosis, mental depression, type 2 diabetes, and cancers affecting the bladder, breasts, cervix, colon, ovaries, prostrate, and the stomach. In other words, after a long dark winter we are all in need of some healing sunlight which is the perfect cure for what ails you.

Of course, all things in moderation. An overdose of the old rays and you might be looking at skin cancer or most surely a case of sunburn. That aside, let’s get off our computer chairs and get outside and get some sun. Take a walk, hit the links, do some yard work, mow the grass, wash the car, get the hammock out of storage and take a nap or my favorite, just lay back in the fresh green grass and gaze up into the blue.
