The Bellaire High School pipeline to the National Football League is flowing once again.
Already with 11 past players drafted by NFL teams, another made it an even dozen Sunday.
Nate Davis was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the fifth round with the 171st overall pick, ending a two-day waiting process.
Having covered Nate Davis throughout his prep career at Bellaire High, I can say without reservation that this is one of the finest young men I have ever come to know. He's mannerly, respectful, handles himself well and appreciates what his family, school, friends and coaches have done for him. That's a true sign of a classy individual.
We personally think the 49ers are a great fit for him as well, seeing that they don't boast a future hall of famer under center. Obviously, nothing will be given to Davis and he doesn't want that anyway and he's looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead.
It's going to be interesting chronicling the next chapter of Davis' career, which earned him player of the year on every level thus far. He was state football and basketball player of the year as a senior and this past season was Mid-American Conference Player of the Year.
We hope Davis enjoys the next week before he flies to the West Coast to begin life as a professional athlete. Something tells me, he's going to be the same kid he's always been, and that's a credit to his mom (Linda), dad (Tube) and brother (Jose).
Good Luck. You've already made the Ohio Valley proud, but don't ever be satisfied.
