April 28, 2009 - Robert "Bubba" Kapral
It may have taken longer than he would have liked, but Nate Davis had his name called in the fifth round of the NFL Draft. He joins an elite group of former Bellaire Big Reds in that capacity. Previously getting the draft call were ex-Reds Benny Taylor (fourth round) in 2002, Joey Galloway (first round) in 1995, Lance Mehl (third round) in 1980, Ron Lee (third round) in 1976 and Andy Dorris (fourth round) in 1973. That speaks volumes of the Bellaire High grid tradition. All of the former draftees also enjoyed at least solid success in the NFL. We expect nothing less from Nate. He is a bigtime talent, going to a team that is in quarterback disarray. While Nate may need a year or two of grooming, I can envision Nate as a productive starting quarterback for the 49ers.
