Well, the brackets have been set, the media has been met with and the coaches have gotten their last-minute instructions. It's time for the eight mats to be rolled out and wrestling action to heat up at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling.
The 55th annual Ron Mauck OVAC Wrestling Tournament unfolds this weekend with more than 850 matches set to go off during the course of the three-day, five session event. Wheeling Park, Oak Glen and Beaver Local appear prime to battle for the overall title with the most seeded wrestlers.
The big story is the fact that Ron Muack -- whom the tournament is named after -- has decided to step down as the director of the event and turn the reigns over to Dan Doyle. It should be a smooth transition, but something tells me Mauck will still be around the tournament he basically invented years ago and has turned into the largest mat tourney in the United State.
The Times Leader is your home for OVAC Wrestling all weekend. Our pre-tournament publication will be included in Wednesday's paper and from there the wrestling begins. The Times Leader will have up-to-the round results on the website as well as live blogging by myself as well as our wrestling guru Brian Cook live from WesBanco Arena. That doesn't even begin to touch on the meet coverage and photos that will appear daily in the newspaper.
We look forward to bringing you one of the premier events in the area all year long.
