I know! I know! This is a pop culture blog. But...I figured this was the perfect opportunity to share some "momisms" with you.
MOMism---the motherly sayings that every kid has heard and every mom has used to teach lessons with. As kids, I am sure we all hated being disciplined by these one-liners. But, think of all the useful lessons you learned from these classic sayings. (I bet you moms out there are using some of the same quotes that your mom said...but you're using them on your own kids!)
Here's what I learned from my mother.....
My mother taught me GARDENING. "Money doesn't grow on trees."
My mother taught me JUSTICE. "I hope that when you grow up, you have kids just like you!"
My mother taught me THE CIRCLE OF LIFE. "I brought you into this world, and I can take you out!"
My mother taught me LAUNDRY. "Always wear clean underwear in case you are ever in an accident."
My mother taught me ANTICIPATION. "Just wait until your father gets home."
My mother taught me LOGIC. "Because I said so, that's why!"
My mother taught me STAMINA. "You will sit there until you clean your plate of.....insert your most hated food as a child...mine...brussel sprouts!
My mother taught me about FARMS. "Your room is just like a pig sty."
My mother taught me WISDOM. "When you are my age, you'll understand."
My mother taught me RECEIVING. "You and your brother are gonna get it when we get home!"
My mother taught me MONEY. "Shut the door-I can't pay to heat the whole neighborhood."
My mother taught me MEDICINE. "Don't pick that, it will get infected."
My mother taught me FARES. "I'm not running a taxi service around here."
My mother taught me NUMBERS. "I'm going to give you until the count of 3....one...two....."
But most of all.....my mother taught me LOVE. "No matter what you do or where you go, I'll always love you."
So, thank you mom for teaching me so much. Happy Mother's Day!
Until next time friends!
I couldn't leave without giving you a tad bit about celebrities right? Strange but true facts:
*Many of the sweaters worn by Mr. Rogers, on Mr.Rogers Neighborhood, were actually knitted by his mother!
*Elvis was a mama's boy. He slept with his mother until puberty. She walked him to and from school until high school. He even had to take his own silverware because his mom thought he would get germs from the other kids. And....the strangest tidbit....they spoke in a baby talk that only they could understand.
*Katherine Hepburn's mom was a suffragette and early crusader for birth control.
Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there!
