Back to the Grind

July 8, 2009 - Seth Staskey
I am officially back in my seat at my computer at work. I had about a 5-day getaway to the great Pacific Northwest (Oregon) because one of my best friends (Kurt Stubbs) took the plunge and got married.

It was a really nice ceremony, and I must say I looked dashing in a tuxedo. Well, maybe not dashing, but comfortable enough in it that I didn't have to have any additional work done to it when I picked it up in Portland, Oregon.

The reception was held at the church and it was a smaller affair just with cake and finger foods, but it was a really nice time. My girlfriend Gwynne Messenger made the trip and Kurt's entire family was there along with WTOV-9's Rob Metzger who was also in the wedding. It was nice hanging out with people who've meant so much to me for such a long time. It was one of those trips that you're leery of going into it, but once you're there, it's one you realize you couldn't have missed. All told, there were no fewer than 15 people from Ohio there.

Biggest shock of the weekend wasn't the marriage or anything like that. During our trip to the Lloyd Center Mall to pick up my tux, we were eating lunch with a party of no fewer than 12 people and two woman knew me and Gwynne. Rose Durant and Mary Carolyn Nicholson happened to be eating at the same restaurant in the mall in Portland. They were in town for the National ELKS Lodge Convention. It's truly a small world.

Anyway, it's time to focus back on work and it's hard to believe that football is coming so quickly. Just had a meeting about some things going on surrounding football season, and it's unreal we're through June and the Fourth of July already. Anyway, enjoy the final few weeks of summer time because before you know it's going to be chilly and pigskins will be flying about the air.

If you're looking for something to do in the coming weeks, I believe there are a couple of big Ohio Valley festivals coming up....something like Jamboree and the Italian Festival and the OVAC All-Star Game, so look for July to fly by as quickly as most other months.
