JITH attire or simply: You want skin cancer with that?

July 10, 2009 - Taste Buds
IT’S THE time of year that gets the hearts of all red-blooded country music fans beating a little faster and sends the stock of squirt gun manufacturers through the roof - Jamboree In The Hills!

Those in Belmont County are braced for the onslaught of visitors the Superbowl of Country Music brings to the area annually.

We love their spirit!

They come in trailers, campers and motor homes. They shop in our stores, boost our economy and hopefully, add a little bit of spice into what is the Ohio Valley.

We applaud anyone who is willing to spend a week sleeping in a tent at night, listening to country music all day while dealing with limited bathroom facilities.

Careful planning is apparently the key to having a great time at JITH.

First, there are beverages.

You need a lot of them!

The Buds recommend drinking a lot of water to stay hydrated but we are not naive enough to think water is at the top of the store list for most of these fans.

Secondly, choose your wardrobe carefully.

Uniforms are not required but it does appear everyone basically wears the same thing: bikini tops, cut off shorts, cowboy hats and/or bandannas as well as flip flops and cowboy boots.

Bud Tricia worries about all those at the event who shun sunscreen and spend time unprotected out there. Sure, seeing Neal McCoy on stage from 25 feet away is exciting but having a blistering sunburn is not!

For those preparing to go to JITH, Bud Tricia recommends a wide brimmed hat and a t-shirt with sleeves plus a ton of sunscreen. Surely there’s room in the cooler for a bottle of something with an SPF of 30 or more?!

Bud Em thinks she’s crazy and is forbidding her to show up in Morristown carrying an umbrella.

Oh, and don’t worry about accessorizing.

Beads will be thrown at you from every angle. Just wear ‘em! Everyone’s doing it!

And don’t be taken in by that guy promising a JITH tattoo. He’s just looking for a cheap thrill!

And lastly, don’t worry about food.

Apparently no one eats solid food when they’re out there. Something about a liquid diet .....

Speaking of food ....

Bud Tricia was riding through Bridgeport last week and noticed a sign attached to the large Pizza Hut beacon which read, and she quotes, “Wing Street.”

Two thoughts ...

One: Is Pizza Hut now selling wings?

Two: Or did the village elders decide to change the name of U.S. 40?

Also, a neighbor of Bud Tricia’s reported being disappointed with the grilled chicken option at KFC.

Said neighbor, who will soon be a whopping 13 years old, reported there are no grill marks on the meat.

Apparently, grill marks are very important to 13-year-old boys.

If you’ve tried the wings or the grilled chicken, write and let us know what you thought of them!

Tony Belon of Steubenville sent in this recipe for Barbecue Wieners. This can be easily be made in just about any camper or motor home and is sure to be a hit with country music fans at your campsite. BARBECUE WIENERS

2 dozen hot dogs

2 tablespoons butter

1 cup onion, chopped

4 tablespoons sugar

4 tablespoons vinegar

1 cup catsup

4 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce

Mix all ingredients together and pour over hot dogs in a crock pot. Cook until sauce thickens.

THESE ARE the types of things Bud Tricia recommends JITH fans wear to avoid sun exposure. The wide-brimmed hat is from Wallaroo Hat Company. Most Wallaroo Hats have a UPF of 50+ built in and protect against 97.5 percent of the sun’s rays. The items on the right are SunnySleevez which also have an UPF of 50 built in. They can be worn under t-shirts and provide great arm protection! Bud Em wouldn’t be caught dead in either of these items but it will make Bud Tricia easier to spot in a crowd!
