What's going on in St. Louis?

October 27, 2009 - Seth Staskey
I am totally baffled by the St. Louis Cardinals decision -- not the one about bringing back skipper Tony LaRussa -- to hire Mark McGwire as the team's batting coach.

McGwire is a cheater! There's no other way around it. The guy cheated and then not only cheated, but lied to the United State Congress under oath when quizzed about it. How can you hand off the reins of your hitters to a guy who's a cheater. The sport of baseball is still trying to recover from the marks of he and the other cheaters.

Secondly and well behind the ultimate reason of McGwire being a CHEATER, the guy wasn't a good hitter per se. He had a career batting average of .263 and hit over .300 just three times in his career.

It's going to be interesting as the off-season progresses and spring training opens in Februrary whether or not McGwire is going to be able to dance around topics because the questions are coming. More people are going to care about him than Albert Pujols.

I also believe that this move could cause the Cardinals to have a black-eye if numbers increase dramatically, and I don't mean Albert Pujols because that guy produces at an unbelieavable clip anyhow.
