Old school is a frequently used term. It is a catch phrase, however, that doesn't apply to the current winter-weather policy in Ohio Valley educational circles. I believe school administrators pull the plug too quickly on classes in winter time. Monday was a day local school officials made the right call in canceling class. Tuesday and today, however, are a different story. A two-hour delay would have provided the perfect tonic for the sickly road conditions each day. Consequently, school districts have now consumed three of their state-allowed five snow days this year. It is safe to venture that more winter cancellations loom, likely resulting in days being made up later in the year. I am all for safety, especially in regards to children. But common sense should prevail as many schools in other parts of the state (Cleveland for one) had worse weather and still held classes. A little white stuff should not be a green light to cancel school.
