| | Caring FansFebruary 1, 2010 - Robert "Bubba" Kapral I must commend the fans at Friday's Indian Creek-Martins Ferry boys' basketball game on the Purple Riders' boards. Those fans had deep pockets and much compassion. They stepped up in a passionate and caring style for a most worthy cause. The game marked a Coaches vs. Cancer contest. A local physician gave a brief talk to the crowd prior to tip-off about the battle against cancer. Ferry students proceeded to launch a bucket brigade through the stands, canvassing funds for the never-ending fight against cancer. When all the donations were totaled, some $308 was collected. I view that as a most productive and heart-warming gesture. It dwarfed the 50-50 payout which was $75. As a person who lost a younger sister to cancer, I applaud those who gave Friday night at Ferry.
