It's the greatest basketball time of the year. March Madness. Preps are down to the final four for girls and regional play for boys and the college teams are preparing for the rigors of the NCAA Basketball Tournament.
It's absolutely great. I pitched a topic to a few buddies recently that Championship Week is actually better than the NCAA Tournament. I mean, don't get me wrong the tournament is a great spectacle, which captivates the country for three weeks. But, you've got all of the teams in action during championship week.
Each year when the brackets are released, teams have beefs that they got seeded too low or their region is too tough, but this is an event where the cream always rises to the top and beating the team in front of you is the biggest job. Not worrying about what's going on in the opposite end of the brackets.
Personally, I hope the tournament doesn't expand. It's a perfect cut off now at 65 and the field isn't too watered down like it would be. For some of the smaller schools who didn't get into the NCAA, it's a blessing. It's better to go to the NIT and play a few extra games than go to the NCAA, get your one game and head home.
Here are my Final Four Picks:
Kansas and Kentucky for the title and once again John Calipari comes up short to Bill Self.
