Spring wardrobes or simply: Hope we get new windbreakers!
March 19, 2010 - Taste Buds
THE BUDS had a little bit of spring fever this week and were itching to break out a new wardrobe.
We wanted to be done with turtle neck sweaters, black boots and woolen scarves. We longed to break out of the winter-induced cocoon and wear something fresh, something bright, something with a little color!
We were thrilled when morning talk shows started to spotlight what they called “affordable” new spring looks ... but then we actually watched a segment and decided what television producers in New York consider affordable and what the Buds consider affordable are not even close to the same thing!
The television hosts were touting skirts for the rock bottom price of $75! What! You’ve got to be kidding! A skirt that costs $75 better jump up on our bodies on its own!
We looked at one another and decided both our outfits put together didn’t add up to $75 - including our shoes!
Then there was the “must-have trench coat” of the season.
Weren’t they telling us to buy a trench coat last year? How many trench coats does one need?
We guess it really doesn’t matter because we didn’t buy one then and probably won’t buy one now.
Oh, we remember the days when our mothers would get us a new spring jacket or windbreaker (preferably with the hood that rolled up and zipped into a special compartment by the neck) every year but now we’re the moms and need to worry about jackets for our own kids before the thought of buying a trench coat would cross our minds!
Polka dots are also supposedly big this year. This bit of news left Bud Em speechless but she did make a face that made it seem highly doubtful she’ll be spotted wearing anything spotted this season.
Ditto for the big animal/tribal print trend. Do you have any idea how a woman of Scotch-Irish descent who can’t leave the house without sunscreen looks wearing tribal prints?
Ridiculous, that’s how!
Looks like the Buds won’t be getting any new clothes this season! Oh well, maybe we can talk our parents into buying us new windbreakers for Easter!
Newsflash: The Buds inadvertantly left out the web address for the nifty little solar charger when we blogged about it last month! To get the JuiceBar which keeps cell phones, MP3s and other electronics charged using solar power, simply visit CableOrganzier.com. Now that the sun is actually out, it will really come in handy to keep all those gadgets juiced up while you’re at the park enjoying the sunshine!
Now, here’s a dish from Helen Rusiecki of Dillonvale for Vegetable Pizza which you can whip up for less than the cost of a new spring wardrobe!
1 tubes crescent rolls (spread out on 18x2 pan). Bake according to directions. Cool.
Cream together: 3/4 cup Miracle Whip
1 8 oz. package of cream cheese
1 package Original Hidden Valley Ranch dressing
Spread on top of cooled crescent rolls.
1 cup finely chopped broccoli
1 cup finely chopped carrots
1 cup finely chopped red sweet peppers
1 cup of shredded pizza cheese
