Dancing with the Stars

March 26, 2010 - Kim Collette

Yes, we all know I'm a reality tv show junkie.  And....one of my favorites, Dancing with the Stars (DWTS) boogied out it's 10th season this past Monday evening.  And just like some of my other favs, DWTS made a few changes that I'm not quite sure I'm a fan of yet.

Tom Bergeron, funny  quips and all, returned as host, bu he now has a new, shall we say "dancing partner."  The new co-host  is former contestant Brooke Burke.  My opinion....she did an okay job.  She smiled a lot and seemed like she genuinely enjoyed being back on the show.  The DWTS bigwigs also changed the holding room.  I don't know if I'm a fan of it or not.  Tom Bergeron dubbed the room "the celebraquarium."  Now all the celebrities and their partners hover over the ballroom in a glass box.  (Personally if I were a contestant, I'd want my big, fluffy, red sofas back...their hoofers have to be in some serious pain!).  Plus, it takes away the celebrity's comfort.  They are always on "display" now.  My verdict is still out on both of these changes.......

So on to the  fun stuff.....the cast!  This year's cast is probably the most well known and probably the MOST talked about!  Here's a run down of this year's stars:

Chad Ochocinco, better known for his end zone antics than his football prowess.

Shannon Doherty, following former 90210 alums Ian Ziering and Jennie Garth, who is probably best known for her "bad girl" persona.

Erin Andrews, a sideline reporter for ESPN, who was recently in the news for being stalked.

Jake Pavelka, the most recent Bachelor.

Evan Lysacek, the 2010 Men's Figure Skating Gold Medalist.

The always present soap opera star, Aiden Turner.

TV actor/host Niecy Nash, (who in my opinion was tagged to be the funny this year).

Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger..

Former Baywatch Babe, Pamela Anderson.

Reality tv star and mom of 8 Kate Gosselin.

And last but certainly not least, moon walker Buzz Aldrin (no pun intended....he really did walk on the moon!)

So....who do I see competeing for the coveted mirror-ball trophy?  With just one performance  under their twinkling  toes.....I'd say the 2 best dancers are Evan Lysacek and Nicole Scherzinger.  The "dark horse" contestants to keep an eye on are probably Chad Ochocinco and Erin Andrews.  And...not to take anything away from the historic accomplishments of Buzz Aldrin...but he will probably be in the competition longer than he should because of the popularity vote.

Next week marks the second week of dancing and....the first elimination.  Tune in to see if the stars can live up to the "hype."

Until next time friends!
