The Show Got Me Again!

April 14, 2010 - Kim Collette

I can't stop watching.  I can't stop having opinions.  American Idol was on my t.v. once again last night.  So,  I've decided to give a quick recap of the 9 finalists performances and who I think will make it to this season's finale.

Adam Lambert was the contestants "mentor."  It was Elvis theme night.  It was the night with the most pressure on the contestants.....2 will go home this week.

Here goes (in order of their performances last night):

Crystal Bowersox: She is probably still the odds on favorite.  Last night, Crystal broke out the electric guitar...and once again  didn't disappoint.  Solid, spot on vocals.  "It was dope," said Randy Jackson.  There really isn't anything else to say.  She rocks!

Andrew Garcia:  His shining moment so far was "Straight Up" during Hollywood Week.  I never thought the Elvis classic "Hound Dog" could be as boring as he made it.  I almost fell asleep!  Simon said it best,"when you see one of these musicals there's always the 1 part nobody wants to see and hear, and that was the part."  I couldn't have said it any better.  Kudos Simon!

Tim Urban:  Teflon Tm has been the most "beat up"  of this year's contestants. Tim smiles and keeps on surviving.  "I Can't Help Falling In Love"....with Tim.  The eyes, the smile....and he was actually one of my favorites last night.  Simon's quote, "You have managed to go from zero to hero ."

Lee Dewyze:  He's cute, current and has a great tone to his voice (and my personal favorite).   Last night was no different.....he had great vocals.  The last line of his song went, "c'mon and satisfy me."  Well...he satisfied me last night!  Dare I say.....he was better than Crystal!  Hmmmm.....Simon even said he nailed it!

Aaron Kelly:  Aaron is just adorable.  He broke out of his slow, ballad mode (thankfully).  And, for just being 16, he's not a bad singer.  What can I say?  He's not the best singer in the competition, but he always manages to make me smile!  Ellen gave him an "A" for effort and so did I.

Siobhan Magnus:  Siobhan definitely marches to the beat of her own drum.  She does have a big, powerful voice....but I am over the scream. Siobhan actually bored me last night.  Kara summed up my feelings, "2 different voices, and it's getting confusing."  Agreed!

Mike Lynche:  Mike is the reason 2 contestants will be going home tonight.  He was saved by the judges last week.  I still don't get it.  While I do think he has smooth vocals, he too tends to bore me each week.  I still don't understand why the judges saved him.  And....for the 1st time during the show last night...I didn't agree with anything the judges said.  They all loved him....Not me!

Katie Stevens:  Hmmmmm......The Katherine McPhee cookie cutter contestant.  There is just something about her that rubs me the wrong way.  But, I will say she has a great singing voice.  Last night was a so-so performance.  I totally agreed with Simon when he said she was "loud and annoying."

Casey James:  Casey had to take his shirt off to get a ticket to Hollywood.   I don't quite understand.  Why?  Because he can sing.  He is probably the most consistent performer left on the Idol Stage.  Last night he delivered yet another consisten performance but he didn't wow.  I do think he did enough to be safe yet another week.

Based solely on last night's performances, I am 99% sure that Crystal, Lee and Casey will be safe.  The bottom dwellers after last night (I hate to say) would be Aaron, Andrew and Katie.

How I rate the Top 9 overall:

1.  Lee

2.  Crystal

3. Casey

4. Tim

5. Mike

6. Siobhan

7. Aaron

8. Katie

9. Andrew

I am sure I am totally wrong as usual.  But I guess that's why I tune in every week!

Until next time friends!
