Bellaire residents hopefully recognize a good deal when it is presented to them. The Bellaire Police Levy is just that. The Bellaire Police Department does exceptional and professional work, and does so under the toughest of circumstances. The force is understaffed and underfunded. Moreover, the officers are challenged by one of the toughest crime communities in the Ohio Valley. The Bellaire Police Levy is just 5 mills. That is a small price to pay to support a department that is stretched to the limit and still performs outstanding work. Five mills means just $5 a month to most village property owners. As former Belmont County Auditor Joe Pappano says about the police levy: "it is a bargain." I have already voted for the police levy via early voting. I would like to think a majority of Bellaire voters will also support it.
