Paws Up for Bulldog Levy
April 28, 2010 - Robert "Bubba" Kapral
School levies are the hot ticket on the Eastern Ohio ballot in the May 4 primary.
Brideport is one of those districts seeking voter support of a levy.
I feel positive about the issue passing.
Superintendent Ted Downing has embraced the district in his first year on duty. He has proven to be a people's person and upfront individual. Ted has enabled district residents to have full access to the workings and financial state of the school system. He has no hidden agenda.
That is why we believe Bridgeport district residents should vote to pass the levy issue. Upon passage, the levy money will put the district in solid financial shape for the next five years. That is a nice place to be in, in today's trying academic financial times.
In comparison, Bellaire is looking to pass a 12.9 mill school levy, which does not eliminate a $3 million deficit, as much work would remain to be done.
Bridgeport has a gorgeous new school complex, superb new leadership and an upbeat sense of optimism. It would be a shame to see the school district take a major step back with a levy rejection.
The Bridgeport school levy is one which needs to be supported by voters.
