Off Easy

 I believe that a state attorney general should possess unquestioned character and moral fiber. Obviously Marc Dann has neither. The former Ohio attorney general pleaded guilty last week to two counts of improperly paying aides from political and office accounts and failing to disclose campaign expenses.
  That disturbs me to no end when the highest legal official in the state is a crook. What disturbs me even more is that Dann received a lenient sentence, a mere slap on the wrist.
   Dann was fined just $1,000 and ordered to perform 500 hours of community service. A plea deal also prohibits Dann from holding future public office.     That is a small price to pay for disgracing a sacred office.
  Someone in Dann's position obviously knows the laws better than anyone. So I believe that he should receive much stiffer penalties than your average criminal.
   He should be made an example for all officeholders. Going easy on Dann does nothing to deter similar antics in the future.
