Are you ready for some football?
June 7, 2010 - Robert "Bubba" Kapral
Now that we have dropped the curtain on the Ohio Track & Field Championships, we can officially usher in prep football season. Local teams will now ramp up their workouts. Weightlifting and conditioning will spawn 7-on-7 passing scrimmages. They will be followed by the official start of practice in August, then double sessions and scrimmage games. The regular season will kick off Thursday, Aug. 26. Until then, optimism abounds. Every school, coach and player harbor expectations of successful seasons and the playoffs. For some, like Steubenville Big Red, a state title is always a goal. High school football is the one sport that can dominate the local dialogue, well before the season unfolds. Relish the summer prep grid talk, as once the first games are played, the next 10 weeks fly by all too quickly.
