Back in the Saddle
June 28, 2010 - Seth Staskey
After about a week or so off and a trip to New York City for vacation, I returned to my daily shift duties today. New York City was a blast. Caught two baseball games (one at each stadium), saw Phantom of the Opera at the Majestic Theater on Broadway (It was tremendous), did all of the sights of the Apple and spent a good bit of time at Ground Zero just thinking about that Sept. 11 morning and how chaotic it must have been. Still, that place it just gut-wrenching to look at the pictures and visit the memorials is just sad. There's no other way to put it, it's sad.
Anyhow, other than that the rest of the trip was upbeat and fun. Chinatown was once again an adventure as streed pedlars pushed us toward Oakley, Chanel and Coach handbags. Gwynne left with a handbag, but I came away empty handed from Chinatown. Then it was up to Little Italy for a great meal.
As a sports-a-holic, the baseball games were the best part. However, if you're planning a trip to Yankee Stadium anytime soon, remember you're going for the game and not the stadium experience. The new Yankee Stadium, which I believe cost more than 1 billion dollars is almost identical to the old one. However, in Queens, Citi Field is a fans' paradise. Great views, fan friendly experience and I'd rank it right up against PNC as one of the top ballparks in MLB.
However, now it's back to work as summer ticks away. Hard to believe Jamboree in the Hills in just over two weeks away, the OVAC All-Star Game is just under 4 weeks away and high school football (dare I say) will be here before we know it and everything will be in full swing again.
Hope your summers are going well and your vacations go or have gone as well and are as much fun as mine was.
