Smoking babies or simply: Where can we pick up our awards?

July 2, 2010 - Taste Buds

The Buds hate to brag.

Really. We are all for the modesty ...

But, sometimes ... they can’t help but to notice what great parents they really are, if only by comparison.

It’s not that our kids NEVER do ANYTHING wrong, heck,  just last week Bud Em caught her teeny bopper chugging milk straight from the carton.

Bad manners? Yes. Disgusting for all the other milk drinkers in the house? Absolutely!

But is it unbelievable? Not at all. Bet your kid’s doing it right now.

Will it lead to an early demise? Of course not!

This brings us to our point ...

What is up with the smoking baby?

(If you don’t know what we’re talking about, climb out from under that rock and Google it right now!)

This adorable little bundle of joy has been smoking two packs a day!!

We don’t know what to say, except - HOW does this happen?

According to a report from cbsnews.com,  his parents, Rizal and Diana, say he started smoking when he was just eleven-months-old, during daily trips to the market where they sell fish.

“He was being very fussy, always cried when we were there to sell,” Diana explained, through an interpreter. “So, we just let him play by himself. … One day, we followed him from behind and found him hanging out at a cigarette stall. … He had a cigarette in his hand, already lit. … He already knew how to do it very well, like an adult. … It was actually his own wish.”

“Nowadays,” says Diana, “he smokes one pack a day, two packs at most. … We surely hope he will quit, that he will be like any other kid, not smoking. … But I can’t stand seeing him hurting himself. What can we do but to accept it is as it is?”

HELLO? Is this thing on?

We Buds have done the math here folks (and we can only do math if it’s really, REALLY easy) and this is what we want to know:

1. Are cigarettes FREE in Indonesia? Do they fall from the sky? Who is supplying this kid with smokes?

2. Has he not been taught about playing with matches? We bet they let him run with scissors too. Clearly these “parents” are insane.

and finally

3.  Where can we pick up our ‘Mom of the Year’ awards?! Because we must be awesome!

The next time your kiddo gets “fussy” we beg of you not to run for the Lucky Strike’s. Please do us all a favor and give him one of these Peanut Butter Filled Brownie Cookies from Kathy Fowkes of Bethesda!

1 19.5-ounce box traditional brownie mix

1/4 cup margarine or butter, melted

4 ounces cream cheese, softened

1 egg

1 cup powdered sugar

1cup peanut butter

1/2 container of chocolate fudge frosting (about 1/2 cup) or more if you like a lot of frosting

Heat oven to 350 degrees. In medium bowl, beat brownie mix, melted butter or margarine, cream cheese and egg. Beat well on medium speed with a mixer. Dough will be sticky.

Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart onto lightly greased cookie sheet.

Makes 24 cookies; smooth edges to form round cookie.

In small bowl, mix powdered sugar and peanut butter. Form into 24 small balls. Place one ball into the center of each cookie. Press to slightly flatter peanut butter ball in the center of the cookie.

Bake 10 to 14 minutes until outside edges are set. Remove from oven and cool slightly on cookie sheet. Remove to a wire cooling rack. Once completely cooled; spread with chocolate fudge icing to cover the peanut butter center of each cookie.
