OVAC Hall of Fame
August 22, 2010 - Seth Staskey
This past Saturday, a new class of worthy inductees took their rightful place in OVAC history as they become the seventh class inducted to the OVAC Hall of Fame inside WesBanco Arena.
There were former professional athletes, all-state prep athletes, one athlete who kicked the game-winning field goal for Ohio State in a Rose Bowl and people who were outstanding prep athletes, but never made it to the professional ranks and now are outstanding people in the community or business world.
The OVAC and the more importantly the Ohio Valley has a little bit of everything. While population is decling and there appears to be more and more apathy in the area, one thing that doesn't change is the commitment to sports in the area. It was amazing to see people who don't live in the area any longer come back to Wheeling and get misty-eyed when they thanked their families, past coaches and teammates for helping them become so successful in their particular walk of life.
That, to me, is what it's all about it and why we do what we do around here. The HOF committee will go back to work in the coming months to come up with the Class of 2011 and another exciting night will await next August.
